The Manitou Incline
While driving westbound on Manitou Avenue I snapped this photo of the Manitou Incline - that long and straight vertical line that goes up the mountain. Formerly used as an incline for tourists to enjoy the views of the mountains and scenery looking out east, the business closed down in the early 1990's and the wooden ties have remained. It has become a fairly popular spot for hikers to enjoy, and with the approximate 20% to 25% grade for 0.9 miles, it is quite a workout! ;)
Also, you can see the summit of Pikes Peak to the left and the entrance to the Villa Motel.
